dented crankshaft!!!!!!!!?
hey i was reconditioning my 302 engine and i decided to put new forged pistons and rods on it so that i could use nos on it but when i placed my crank on a table it got dented with a welded bolt (basically the bolt was welded on the table and i didnt see it so i placed it on top of it and it dented the srface where the connecting rod goes around) so i gotthe sharp edge off but there is still a dent will this affect the connecting rod bearings in any way?? it is perfectly smooth all around just that there is a pit on it thanks so much
depends on how large it is. if its large and the engine machine shop says it needs to be welded they can do it in house. if its tiny it probably wouldnt hurt oil flow to much. it oil should just flow into it and fill it. just make sure you use some emerey cloth and get it smooth. but i would take it into a engine machine shop either way just to be safe. you may even have them ballance it for you. so you can really spin some rpms.
