Is Oster a good brand? Do they make good microwaves?
I just purchased an Oster convection microwave, and I was a little alarmed after I did some retro shopping and noticed that another model they made got less than steller reviews on Amazon. After some more digging, I found out that Oster no longer makes microwaves, convection or otherwise, and they had no press release to announce they were getting out of the microwave business. Bad sign? I also got it for a sweet price, $130 at Target. This is really cheap for a microwave with a convection feature. Another bad sign? I don't know. If I don't like it I'll return it. I appreciate your help. By the way, the model is OTO1101VBS. Thanks in advance.
John Oster Mfg. Co. has been around for nearly a hundred years, and they have a pretty good rep. Their home appliances are all right, but not like they used to be. Like most old-line American firms, they have been bought and sold several times, and most of their products are made in China, so the brand recognition means little. As to their microwave ovens, I can tell you that Oster itself did not make it. Most microwaves come out of a couple of Chinese factories, regardless of whose name brand is on it. Except for the high end ones, I have found they are all pretty much the same internally. $130.00 is a good price for a convection model; I'd just keep it and use it until it died, which will take a number of years.
