when installing a wall oven/microwave is there a right way to place them?
i am renovating my kitchen and purchased a wall oven and microwave (separate units). i wanted the oven to be at eye level with the micro installed below. however, when my contractor did the installation, he did it the opposite way - micro on top, wall oven below. now i'm noticing that the combo units which are sold together are configured that way too. doesn't that defeat the purpose of having the oven installed in the wall rather than below your cook top? now i'm confused......
I don't know if there is a technical reason for this, but personally I prefer it that way. The conventional oven opens from the top. If it is placed at eye-level, I find it harder to reach in to take something out, especially considering the amount of heat coming out when I do so. Placed lower, I gain more space by bending forward a little.
By the same token, microwave ovens open from the right. To put things in or take them out, I don't need to bend over to do so, which I would have to do if it were placed lower.
